GOMBE STREAM
DAR ES SALAAM
KIGOMA
UJIJI VILLAGE

Tanzania's smallest park is home to one of the last remaining wild populations of Chimpanzees on the continent. Founded by Jane Goodall the refuge encompasses a thin strip of rain forest on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. It can only be accessed by boat, but it is well worth the journey. Besides its famous chimpanzees there are many other species of monkeys that make the forested shores their home; including red colobus, red-tail and blue monkeys. In the reserve you will guided by park researchers who study the Chimps and track their daily movements.

DAY 1 - DAR ES SALAAM
Arrive on your International or Internal flight to Dar Es Salam, the capital of Tanzania. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the Holiday Inn Dar Es Salaam, a large modern hotel with several restaurants. Rest up for your early morning flight to Kigoma.
Overnight - Holiday Inn Dar Es Salaam

DAY 2 - KIGOMA
You will connect with your early morning flight from Dar es Salaam Airport. Upon arrival in Kigoma, you will be met and transferred to Kigoma Hilltop Hotel perched dramatically on a cliff top overlooking the stunning clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. Enjoy lunch and, perhaps, a refreshing dip in the hotel pool. Afterward you have the day free to wander into Kigoma Town or visit the Dr. Livingstone memorial. Overnight - Kigoma Hilltop Hotel (L,D)

DAY 3 - GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK
After and early breakfast, set off by boat for Gombe National Park. The boat trip takes ˝- 1˝ hours depending on conditions on the lake. An extension of the Rift Valley, Lake Tanganyika was formed around 20 million years ago and is the longest fresh water lake in the world, as well as the second deepest. The views on the lake are spectacular and you may meet the local fishermen as they go about their business. Upon arrival in Gombe, you will have the rest of the day to relax on the beach or perhaps snorkel in the lake. Overnight - Tanapa Rest House (all meals & activities)

DAYS 4/ 5 - GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, spend the day tracking the Chimpanzees guided by one of the park’s researchers. Firstly, your guide will lead you to the site of last night's nests. Once these have been located, you will track the chimps to their present location. This can take anything from a ˝ hour to 4 hours and the trek is often through quite difficult, hilly, but nonetheless spectacular terrain. The amount of time allowed for each visit with the chimps is limited to 1-2 hours. You will return to the Resthouse for lunch. In the afternoons you will have the option to track the chimps with a visit to the waterfall or Jane’s Peak – the spot where Jane Goodall sat each day to wait for a sight of her now famous chimpanzee troupe. Alternatively, relax on the beach or snorkel in the clear waters of the lake where the chimpanzees and other primates sometimes come to drink. Overnight - Tanapa Rest House (all meals & activities)

DAY 6 - GOMBE STREAM / KIGOMA
Spend your last morning visiting the chimps. Return by speedboat to Kigoma in the late afternoon with a trip around Kigoma harbor. Spend the remainder of your day relaxing and enjoying the facilities at the Hilltop Hotel which include a swimming pool, two restaurants, water sports, fishing, snorkeling, gym and a private beach. Overnight - Kigoma Hill Top Hotel (all meals & activities)

Day 7 - KIGOMA / DAR ES SALAAM / END OF SAFARI
After breakfast, you will set off for the small fishing village of Ujiji. One of Africa’s most ancient market villages, Ujiji is significant for being the place where the immortal words, “Doctor Livingstone I presume” were spoken at the historic meeting of Livingstone and Stanley in 1872. Return to the Kigoma Hilltop Hotel for lunch before setting off to the airport in time to connect with your Eagle Air flight to Dar es Salaam.
