PARK NATIONAL DE VOLCANOES

This safari takes you to Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Parc National des Volcanoes (PNV) in Rwanda. each park offers its unique attractions. PNV has five habituated gorilla families living in the afro-montane forests on the southern slopes of the Virunga volcanoes. Mgahinga, on the northern slopes, is often thought to be the prettiest part of the mountain and has one habituated family which spends virtually all year in the park. Travel is by light aircraft and 4x4 driven by your private guide. Treks are lead by park rangers and guides.

DAY 1 - ENTEBBE / KAMPALA
Arrive into Entebbe today and after clearing customs you will be met and transferred to Kampala and your accommodation at the Kampala Grand Imperial Hotel. Overnight - Grand Imperial Hotel (B&B Basis)

DAY 2 - MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK

This morning after breakfast you will met and driven to the airport where you will board your charter flight to Mgahinga. This is the habitat of almost half of the world's remaining population of mountain gorillas. Mgahinga consists of three extinct volcanoes covered with Afro-montane tropical rainforest. It includes parts of Muhavura, Mgahinga and Sabino Volcanic Mountains. The summit of Muhavura has a small crater lake and forms the highest point in the Park.

After you arrive at the Kisoro Airstrip you will be met by your private guide be driven to Mount Gahinga Lodge in time for lunch. The Lodge is set in the foothills of the dramatic Virunga volcanoes, on the border of Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC. The ideal place to stay while gorilla tracking in Mgahinga in Uganda or Djomba in DRC, climbing a volcano, going birding, visiting the emerald lakes nearby or just taking in one of the most beautiful landscapes of Africa. Accommodation is in nine thatched bandas.

After lunch set out on a guided nature walk or visit the Batwa Cave, returning for drinks and dinner. Overnight - Volcanoes Mount Gahinga Lodge (all meals & activities)

DAY 3 - MGAHINGA PARK NATIONAL DE VOLCANOES
Arise early this morning for your chance to see the rare Mountain Gorillas. Your permit is included in the excursion and will be used for either a trek in Mgahinga or to the adjacent Park de National Volcanoes in Rwanda, depending on where you have the best chance of finding these remarkable giants. Overnight - Volcanoes Mount Gahinga Lodge (all meals & trek)

DAY 4 - MGAHINGA PARK NATIONAL DE VOLCANOES

Today you may set out again on another trek into one of the parks or for a guided walk. Outside the Park alternative include a leisurely walk through the shambas (fields) or visiting the local pygmy groups or medicine man or visiting the emerald green Lake Mutanda can also be intriguing. In PNV in Rwanda full day activities include: climbing the Visoke volcano; visiting the remains of the Dian Fossey Karisoke Center, her grave, and the graves of the gorillas which she studied. The more leisurely activities include: taking a short walk to the edge of the forest to see the playful families of endangered golden monkeys or going for walks around the picturesque villages near Volcanoes Virunga Lodge.

Return to camp in the late afternoon for cool drinks and dinner. Overnight - Volcanoes Mount Gahinga Lodge (all meals & trek)

DAY 5 - MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK / KAMPALA - ENTEBBE
After breakfast go for a morning nature walk. Afterwards you will driven to back to Kisoro Airstrip board your charter flight back to Entebbe.
